MusicIQ Songs

These songs grew out of my doctoral research into musical preferences of different age listeners. This research gave some fascinating insights into how to help young children become more natural and able musicians. I put these ideas into action in the form of a series of songs for my own four-year-old son, Jonathan, and in the form of songs that can be used with children at camp.

The MusicIQ Songs include both sheet music and recordings.

Songs for Children

Camp Songs

  • [FREE] The Left-legged Waltz (sheet music and MP3 recording) A fun song that allows campers to invent their own verses and make their own left-legged dance moves.

  • [FREE] The Fire Song (sheet music and MP3 recording) A fun song to sing around a fire, about the flame of friendship.

  • [FREE] We Thank The Lord Today (sheet music and MP3 recording) A fun "grace" that you can sing as a round. This song was made for Girl Scout camps--many Girl Scout camps sing "grace" before each meal, and this song was meant to be just such a grace.

Religious Songs

These are songs that can be used in Sunday School, church camps, or other religious activities with young people.
  • [FREE] The Fire Song (sheet music and MP3 recording) A fun song to sing around a fire, about the flame of friendship.

  • [FREE] We Thank The Lord Today (sheet music and MP3 recording) A song of thankfulness that can be sung before a meal, before bed, or just any time. It can be sung as a round or just as a regular song. It is easy to add verses to sing about the specific things you are thankful for.

  • [FREE] Do You Know God's Prophets (sheet music and MP3 recording) A song about different people in the Bible--have fun making your own verses!

    This arrangement of Jingle Bells can be played by beginners in their first few weeks of piano lessons, who can play the right hand only (someone else could play the accompaniment). Played with both hands together it is a good piece for late-beginner/early-intermediate pianists who have had six months or more of lessons. [The link to download/print the music will take you to my page with FREE MP3 Christmas music; you don't have to listen to any MP3 music in order to download the sheet music, but if you would like to listen, I would appreciate it!]

    "Blast Off!" is from my "Space Songs" series for the beginning pianist--"beginning" meaning those in the first two or three years of piano study. Some "Space Songs" can be started within the first few weeks of piano study; others are more appropriate for students with a year or two of background.
